PADI Assistant Instructor

First Step in Teaching Scuba Diving! As a PADI Assistant Instructor, you not only gain additional experience as a PADI Professional scuba diver, but you also start learning the PADI System of diver education. You can act as an instructional scuba assistant and assume limited teaching responsibilities. It’s a great way to gain experience on your way to becoming a PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor!

Course Prerequisites

• Certified as a PADI Divemaster (or equivalent)

• Minimum 60 logged dives, including experience in deep, navigation & night diving

• Completed EFR Primary Care & Secondary Care training within 24 months (or equivalent)

• Certified diver for at least 6 months

• Minimum age 18

What You Will Learn

You build upon your abilities to organize and supervise scuba diving activities, while concentrating on developing teaching skills. You will get mentored while gaining hands-on experience teaching students.

You learn through:

• Knowledge development through self-study, quizzes, lectures & presentations

• Confined water skill review and assessment, workshops & presentations

• Open water workshops, rescue assessment & candidate presentations

Performance Requirements

PADI scuba diving certification training is performance-based, not time-based. To achieve certification, you will need to:

• Complete Knowledge Development segments during interactive classroom sessions. Independent learning requirements may also be met via PADI Instructor Development online training.

• Successfully present two Knowledge Development teaching presentations.

• Succesfully present two Confined Water (pool) teaching presentations.

• Successfully present one integrated (two skills) Open Water teaching presentation.

• Successfully complete the dive skills assessment.

• Successfully complete the PADI Systems, Standards and Procedures Exam.

• Successfully complete a diver rescue assessment.

Course Format

Assistant Instructor courses include multiple classroom, pool and open water training sessions. These are typically scheduled to meet the Assistant Instructor candidates availability as well as the availability of pool & open water training sites.

Course Schedule & Cost

Assistant Instructor courses are conducted through the dive stores that I work with, including VIP Diving. Please contact me for information regarding Assistant Instructor course training materials & equipment, schedules, costs and related matters.
