PADI Tec 40 Diver

Ready to explore the world of technical diving ... start your training with PADI Tec 40! The PADI Tec 40 course is the first level of training in the PADI Tec Diver training program. The Tec 40 is a limited, entry-level technical diving program that bridges the gap between recreational diving and full technical deep decompression diving. A PADI Tec 40 diver is qualified to:

• Use decompression software and dive computers to plan and make decompression dives with not more than 10 minutes of total decompression and not deeper than 40 metres/130 feet

• Use a single cylinder of decompression gas with up to 50 percent oxygen (EANx50) to add conservatism to the required decompression

NOTE: The PADI Tec 40 course can be completed using equipment that is marginally more extensive than that used in mainstream recreational diving. Divers planning to continue their technical diving training in the PADI Tec 45 and PADI Tec 50 courses are strongly encouraged to complete the PADI Tec 40 course in full technical diving gear.

Course Prerequisites

• PADI Advanced Open Water Diver or equivalent

• PADI Enriched Air (Nitrox) Diver or equivalent

• PADI Deep Diver or show proof of at least 10 dives to 100ft/30m

• Minimum age 18

• Minimum of at least 30 logged dives with at least 10 dives using enriched air (nitrox) deeper than 60ft/18m

What You Will Learn

During the Tec 40 course, you will learn how to conduct limited decompression diving within accepted recreational depth limits, including:

• Philosophy & goals of technical diving

• Technical diving risks & responsibilities

• Tec 40 equipment requirements

• Gas planning, including SAC, oxygen limits & gas supply requirements

• Team diving

• Tec diving techniques & procedures, including gas switches & decompression stops

• Emergency procedures

• Thinking like a technical diver

• Tec 40 gas & decompression planning, including use of decompression software

Performance Requirements

PADI Tec 40 course training is typically conducted with 3 classroom training sessions and 3 practical application sessions, followed by 4 open water training dives. There are reading assignments & Knowledge Reviews required to be completed prior to the start of the Tec 40 course. To achieve certification, you will need to:

• Complete the Tec 40 reading assignments & Knowledge Reviews provided by your Tec 40 instructor.

• Complete (3) classroom training sessions with your Tec 40 instructor & successfully complete the Tec 40 final exam.

• Complete (3) Tec 40 practical application sessions with your Tec 40 instructor.

• Complete (4) Tec 40 training dives with your Tec 40 instructor.

Course Format

The PADI Tec 40 course is typically conducted over 3 days with classroom & practical application sessions each morning, followed by training dives at local dive sites. The final training dive is a planned decompression dive.

Course Schedule & Cost
