PADI Tec 50 Diver

Take your technical diving to the next level ... become a PADI Tec 50 Diver! The third part of the full PADI Tec Diver program is Tec 50. As a Tec 50 diver, you show that you’ve developed competency as a tec diver and have the skills to dive to a maximum of 165ft/50m. You know how to make extended, accelerated decompression stops using up to two gases. It’s not easy to reach this level and earning your Tec 50 certification opens the door to deeper diving expeditions.

As a PADI Tec 50 diver, you are qualified to:

• Use air, EANx and oxygen for multiple stop decompression dives as deep as 165ft/50m using standard open circuit, multiple cylinder tec diving equipment

• Use two decompression gases (nitrox and/or oxygen) to accelerate or add conservatism to your decompression

NOTE: The PADI Tec 50 course is conducted in full technical diving gear.

Course Prerequisites

• Certified as a PADI Tec 45 diver or provide a qualifying certification from another training organization

• Certified as a PADI Rescue Diver or provide a qualifying certification from another training organization ... students who meet this prerequisite through a qualifying certification must provide proof of training in CPR & First Aid within the previous two years

• Minimum age 18

• Minimum of at least 100 logged dives with at least 20 dives using enriched air (nitrox) deeper than 60ft/18m and at least 15 dives deeper than 100ft/30m (with or without nitrox)

What You Will Learn

During the Tec 50 course, you will learn how to conduct deeper decompression dives in full technical diving gear and using two decompression gases (nitrox or oxygen) to accelerate decompression, including:

• Emergency procedures

• Thinking like a technical diver

• Mission planning

• Introduction to trimix

Performance Requirements

PADI Tec 50 course training is typically conducted with 2 classroom training sessions and 3 practical application sessions, followed by 4 open water training dives. There are reading assignments & Knowledge Reviews required to be completed prior to the start of the Tec 50 course. To achieve certification, you will need to:

• Complete the Tec 50 reading assignments & Knowledge Reviews provided by your Tec 50 instructor.

• Complete (2) classroom training sessions with your Tec 50 instructor & successfully complete the Tec 50 final exam.

• Complete (3) Tec 50 practical application sessions with your Tec 50 instructor.

• Complete (4) Tec 50 training dives with your Tec 50 instructor.

Course Format

The PADI Tec 50 course is typically conducted over 3 days with classroom & practical application sessions on the first two mornings, followed by training dives at local dive sites. The final two training dives are planned decompression dives with 2 decompression gases for accelerated decompression.
