Specialty Instructor Course

Overview

Dive more, have more fun and teach your favorite subjects. PADI Specialty Instructor courses provide valuable teaching tips for meeting the requirements of the specialty course. Having five Specialty Instructor ratings is a prerequisite for the PADI Master Scuba Diver Trainer (MSDT) rating.

PADI Sidemount Diver Specialty Instructor training covers how to organize, promote and conduct the PADI Sidemount Diver specialty course and emphasizes the value of specialty training to divers.

Course Prerequisites

• PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor (OWSI)

Note: IDC/OWSI candidates may participate in PADI Specialty Instructor training courses, but may only apply for Specialty Instructor certification after passing an IE.

• PADI Sidemount Diver or equivalent

• Minimum 10 sidemount dives

Note: This is a course exit requirement, dives may be completed following the instructor training course.

Performance Requirements

PADI Sidemount Diver Specialty Instructor course training is typically conducted with a short classroom session, followed by two open water training dives. To achieve PADI Sidemount Diver Specialty Instructor certification, you will need to:

• Demonstrate mastery of all knowledge development and water skill performance requirements for the PADI Sidemount Diver course.

• Present a knowledge development presentation from the PADI Sidemount Diver course outline.

• Conduct an open water teaching assignment and demonstrate all open water performance requirements for the PADI Sidemount Diver course.
